Notes & comments

This assignment was one of my favorite to work on and complete. It was very time consuming and tedious but in the end I think my finished product was worth it. Some of the techniques I used in this project were basic shapes, strokes and fills, opacity, paths, various transformations, layers, and fitting text to a path. My card is of a Halloween scene and includes pumpkins, bats, tress, leaves, a moon, a sky, a ground and a ghost.

The first step to making my card was getting the navy background. I completed this by simply placing a navy rectangle over the canvas and locking that layer so it would not move. Next I made the green ground are by making a green circle, making it large, placing it where I would want the top half of the circle to lay on my card, then clipping the card to get rid of the rest of the circle I did not want. Next I created the stars by using circles, making them small and white then copying a pasting them where I wanted. Then I made the 3-D "Happy Halloween" Text using duplicate, paths and moving the duplicates up and to the left to get the 3-D effect. The Trick or Treat text was simply text fitted to a line.

The next step to my card was creating all the objects like the ghost and pumpkins. First I created the two tress using the tree tutorial on the class site. I made the trees thicker and brown to look more realistic. Next I created the pumpkins. They are just orange circles as the base and a green square scaled to look like a stem. The small darker orange lines were drawn with the pencil, fee hand but as ellipses and smoothed out. Then I made the designs on the inside of the pumpkins using shapes to look like carved pumpkins. Next I made the leaves using free hand and just set the smooth to about 70, scaled them down, copied them and changed the colors.

Lastly I made the ghost and the bats. For the ghost, I made a half circle and made it white. Then I made the bottom half of the ghost using free hand and increasing the smoothness. Next I made the arms with circles and then the mouth and eyes with circles as well. For the bats I made the head, ears and body separate then grouped them. The head is a circle and the ears and body are free hand drawn. After grouping them, I made them smaller, copies them and then placed them where I wanted.
