IT 280 Web Development II, Spring 2008

 

Midterm Project
OPEN BOOK, TAKE-HOME

Due: Before the start of class on Tuesday, 03/18

Requirements

This midterm is designed to showcase your HTML and CSS skills. You should:

  1. Review all of the concepts and techniques we have covered
  2. Plan how you will demonstrate your mastery of them.
  3. Create a subdirectory of your IT280 site for this midterm.
  4. Put all of the documents for this midterm in that subdirectory.
  5. Ensure that all the documents meet the following minimum specifications:
    • validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict.
    • use HTML elements in appropriate structure (for example, don't have an h1 and h3 without an intervening h2.
    • use a common external style sheet that also validates.
    • be legible - clear and easy to read.
    • be created by writing the HTML code using an editor. You may not use a page authoring tool such as Front Page or Dreamweaver.

Content - 4 pages

  1. Your Professional Résumé page. It should:
  2. A Discussion Questions page.
    • It should include your answers to the following five discussion topics
      1. the role of standards and validation in the WWW.
      2. the CSS Box model, and some applications of it in web design.
      3. style sheets and why it is important to use them.
      4. at least three different ways to make a horizontal navigation menu 'bar" in a webpage and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Include examples.
      5. what you have found to be the most interesting topic of the semester so far. What about it did you like and why?
    • Your answers should all be on one page.
    • The page should include a "floating" menu with within-page links to the discussion responses.
    • Your responses should be expressed in your own words - not copy & paste from the class notes or other source - using complete sentences and paragraphs.
    • Your responses should be thorough - at least 250 words per question.
  3. A Site Summary page which discusses how your exam site demonstrates the concepts and techniques we have covered. Point out where specific topics are addressed.
  4. A cover page for your midterm site. It should include:
    • at least one image other than a background image.
    • An introductory paragraph.
    • links to
      • Your Résumé page
      • Your Discussion Questions page
      • Your Site Summary page
      • Your CSS files for the exam.
      • Your IT 280 Table of Contents page (Which should have a link to the midterm)
    • Other content of your choice.

Submission

  1. Publish your pages to wyrd.hood.edu and complete the entry on Blackboard.
