My name is Devin Hill and I am currently a sophomore at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. I am majoring in Computer Science and plan to minor in either Web Development or Political Science. I attended Paul VI Catholic High School, in Fairfax, Virginia, for three years before transferring to my alma mater, The Potomac School, in McLean, Virginia. This page is a personal page which is composed of information on me, my schooling and education, and the many interest I currently have.
At Hood College I have taken many interesting courses and engaged in extracurricular activities as well. For my computer science major I have completed 3 courses so far, Computer Science 1 and 2, and Computer Organization and Design. The first two classes are basic programming in Java and the third is an introduction to the general organization, architecture and functional characteristics of computer systems. Currently, I am taking my fourth CS class, Advanced Data Structures. I have also taken some math classes such as Calculus 1 and 2, and also Discrete Math. Outside of my major requirements, I have taken core requirement classes such as United States history, biology, English, and even a music class. For a minor, which I have not decided upon yet, I have taken one political science class, Introduction to U.S. Politics, and am currently taking Elements of Web Development 1, corresponding to the Web Development minor.
I have also participated in some activities outside of school. I was on the Hood College Men's Basketball team my freshmen year and the start of my sophomore year before deciding to focus on school and pursue other things. Though I made this decision, I had many great times with my teammates and coaches. I have wanted to coach basketball for a few years and have done so in the past two summers and wish to continue. I also enjoy fitness and nutrition. I love going to the gym and working out during the week and also eating healthily.
My favorite quotation comes from a lecture given in my Introduction to U.S. Politics.
This lecture was on civil rights and civil liberties and the quote comes from the
Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, stating No state shall deprive
any person of life, liberty, or property, without the due process of law; nor deny to
any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
For me, there are a few essential website in which i use almost every day to stay on top of my school work and stay in communication with my professors. In addition to those sites mentioned earlier, those websites are Blackboard, which i use to find out information for each class, such ass due dates and announcements, the wyrd homepage, which is a restricted lab facility for class work for selected courses in the Computer Science Department at Hood College, and my email that i use to communicate with professors.
My three biggest interests currently are basketball, particularly coaching, US politics and health and fitness. I have been paying basketball since I was six years old and it has been the single most influential force on my life. It allowed me to be recruited and attend both of my high schools and my college. It has also allowed me to travel across the U.S. to places like Miami, FL, Long Island, NY, and other states such as Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Tennessee, and New Jersey. I have met most of my friends through basketball and many great mentors who have impacted my life greatly. Besides basketball, I have recently found interest in politics and health and fitness. My interest in politics is a fairly new interest but probably my most important one. I strongly believe that how our government is a strong one and very powerful one and how it is run and what it engages in is and should be important to every U.S citizen. As far as my interest in health and fitness, it derives from my belief in a healthy lifestyle which can improve anybody's day to day routine and overall mood vastly.
These are some links correlated to my interest mentioned above.
